Science Journalism

As an English major turned biology PhD, I specialize in translating complex scientific findings into compelling stories that include diverse perspectives.

Through my focus on food, I explore science, agriculture, sustainability, health, environmental justice, culture, and flavor.

I deliver explainers on underreported emerging concerns, like why “may contain” allergen labels are often misleading, and how subsistence fishers may consume ‘forever chemicals’ through their catches.

I’m also committed to reporting solutions—from creative plant breeding that could help tomato pollen survive a heat wave, to manure management techniques that could help dairy farmers increase profits and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

I am skilled in writing features, news briefs, and video scripts. I work with a wide range of publication types, including mass media outlets, scientific journals, and local newspapers and magazines.
